Thursday, August 29, 2024 Plans are underway for Ivanpah Valley Airport, set 23 miles south of the Las Vegas Strip, to ease congestion at Harry Reid International and ensure future aviation growth. Las Vegas is poised to witness a spectacular rebound in international air travel by the end of this year’s fourth quarter. Harry Reid International Airport (LAS), the gateway to the Entertainment Capital of the World, is on track to surpass pre-pandemic traffic levels, reaching 104% of its previous capacity.

This surge in global connectivity is set to boost travel to Las Vegas, with every international route—except those from Canada—expected to operate at full capacity. Canadian flights are also performing strongly, operating at 99% of pre-pandemic levels. Hitting the Jackpot in Travel Joel Van Over, senior director at Ailevon and a key figure with the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA), highlighted the role of new international flights in this growth.

Van Over, who will be representing Las Vegas at the 2024 World Routes Conference in Bahrain this October, emphasizes that these new routes are crucial in driving the airport’s impressive recovery and expansion. Here’s a table summarizing the new international routes to Las Vegas: The new Aer Lingus route to Ireland has been highly anticipated, with travel agents and influencers eagerly sharing news about it even before the official announcement. Conventions Fueling LAS Success Conventions continue to play a pivotal role in attracting visitors and fostering new connections for Las Vegas.

A prime example is the Consumer Electronics Show, set to take place in Sin City from January 7 to January 10. To accommodate this major event, special international charter flights will bring delegates directly to Las Vegas from Paris, Tokyo, and London. As Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) continues to expand its capacity, it’s projected to reach its maximum limit of 65 million annual passengers by 2030.

Airlines are proactively adjusting their schedules to capitalize on the airport’s growing capacity. Las Vegas has solidified its status as a premier global destination, drawing travelers from around the world with its diverse offerings. The city’s vibrant entertainment scene, world-class conferences, exciting sports events, and nearby natural wonders like the Grand Canyon make it an irresistible choice for visitors.

Southern Nevada Supplemental Airport: Future Expansion in the Works Airport officials are advancing plans for the development of Ivanpah Valley Airport, also known as Southern Nevada Supplemental Airport (SNSA), situated 23 miles (37 km) south of the Las Vegas Strip. The new airport is designed to alleviate congestion at Harry Reid International Airport and provide long-term aviation capacity for the Las Vegas metropolitan area. Unlike Harry Reid, which is constrained by limited space and expansion possibilities, Ivanpah will span over 6,000 acres (2,400 ha) with an additional 17,000 acres (6,900 ha) reserved for future development, ensuring ample room for growth and expansion.
