For the first time in program history, the Lake Havasu High School flag football team hosted a game when they faced Verrado on Tuesday. Unfortunately for the Knights, the Vipers took the win 20-0. “We've got to be better at our flagpoles, our tackles.
We've got to stick to our jobs and there were a lot of things that went great for us, but a lot of things that really need to improve that we need more focus on,” coach Charlie Stickney said. “So my end of the game talk with the girls is that we need to focus on our attitude, our energy, and our focus. Three things that we can control and grow from and if we have those three things locked in, we can grow from there and get better.
” This was the second game for the Knights and the first was a 16-0 win over Sierra Linda last week, giving a taste of what the team is capable of. “We did have our bright first win last week and so we know that we're capable of victory,” Stickney said. “We just need to lock in each and every game, bring the energy, bring the school spirit, bring the community spirit, and harness that and push forward.
” The differences between the two games were the focus and reads. As this is only the second game, the team hasn’t had the kind of experience that others like Verrado has. The Vipers fell to Millennium in the first round of playoffs last year.
“I would say that the focus was not there. No matter where we're playing, this group of girls is extremely talented and I wouldn't trade them in .
