By MATT KING [email protected] FARMINGTON – In her calm and consistent manner, junior Allison Scott is leading by example as North County continues its recent run of dominance in MAAA girls tennis. The five-time reigning regular-season champion Lady Raiders flexed their roster depth again with a third straight conference tournament title Wednesday at Engler Park.
The Lady Raiders equaled their winning total of 23 points from last year, out of a maximum 27, while repeating their clean sweep of three doubles brackets. When the nine-hour event concluded, all six North County participants received their plaques wearing two medals for placing among the top three individuals. Scott became the third different champion at the prestigious No.
1 level in as many years representing North County, following Lauren Politte in 2022 and Lucy Pace last fall. Her clinching 8-2 victory against Potosi senior Lani Elder was mostly settled with baseline rallies, and came after an 8-1 semifinal triumph over Farmington senior Eva Guzman. Elder was the No.
1 singles runner-up for the second consecutive time. She twice held serve before Scott earned a break at 4-2 and claimed the last six games in succession. Scott won the No.
3 singles title as a freshman and No. 2 singles crown as a sophomore. Her upward doubles trek alongside partner Kinley Tracy has been equally steady.
That duo wrapped up the No. 1 doubles final in 8-3 fashion against Farmington challengers Guzman and Dagny McCarver,.
