Lady In The Lake on Apple TV+ has sparked curiosity among book enthusiasts, keen to spot the differences between the series and the original novel. The crime thriller, based on Laura Lippman's best-selling 2019 book, premiered on Apple TV+ on Friday, July 19, with only the first two episodes of seven available for streaming. The drama follows Jewish housewife Maddie Schwartz (portrayed by Natalie Portman) as she investigates two murders.

How does Apple TV+'s Lady In The Lake differ from the book? Alternative names For starters, some of the main characters in the show have undergone name changes for the series. Tessie Durst, the 11 year old Jewish girl whose body is discovered by Maddie, is named Tessie Fine in the novel. Similarly, Cleo Johnson (played by Moses Ingram), another victim, was originally Cleo Sherwood in the book.

While Maddie's name remains unchanged, she insists on being addressed by her maiden name, Morgenstern. The reasons behind these minor alterations remain unclear. New characters Additionally, new characters have been introduced in the TV adaptation that do not appear in the book.

These include politician Myrtle Summer (Angela Robinson), boxer Reggie Robinson (Josiah Cross), and Cleo's husband Slappy Johnson (Byron Bowers). In the Apple TV+ adaptation, Cleo's room mate Latetia from the novel is replaced by her childhood best friend Dora Carter (Jennifer Mogbock). Maddie and The Durst family Maddie's ties to the Dursts are deeper than what's revealed in Lippman's novel.

It turns out that Maddie had a high school romance with Allan Durst (David Corenswet), the father of the murdered child Tessie. She was also mistreated by Allan's dad, adding another dimension to her connection with the Durst family. Cleo's jobs Cleo's employment situation differs in the show compared to the novel.

While she only works as a bartender at Shell Gordan's club in the book, she takes on multiple jobs in the series. Besides bartending, she also does bookkeeping for Shell and models clothes in department store windows, which is how she first meets Maddie. A fresh episode will be released on Apple TV+ every week until the finale, scheduled for Friday, August 23.
