Pune: The deadline for applications under the Mukhyamantri Mazhi Ladki Bahin Yojana is likely to be extended to Oct end in the wake of the upcoming assembly elections and as many as 2.4 crore beneficiaries were approved for the scheme till Sept 24, said women and child development department officials. They said the extension would allow more women to come forward and benefit from the Yojana.
The previous deadline to apply for the scheme was Sept end. With less than a week to go, the state govt had received 2.5 crore applications and around 2.
4 crore were approved, senior officials from the state woman and child development (WCD) department told TOI. They said the increase in applicants had been because of special camps being held in all districts over the last two months. The govt is expecting applications to touch over 2.
5 crore by Sept end. "Applications have increased over the last 10 days due to continuous programmes. Collectors and commissioners are working to clear it at the earliest," a senior WCD official told TOI.
Applications that either lacked documents or the bank account was not linked with Aadhaar would be considered once it was re-registered after seeding with the bank account, for which work was on, officials added. Pune with 18 lakh approved applications till Sept 24 leads the tally followed by Nashik at 14 lakh, Thane at 12 lakh and Nagpur with 10 lakh. All districts have been directed to conduct special camps and clear the applications if criteria were met.
