Friday, August 23, 2024 Ladera Resort, nestled in the heart of a UNESCO World Heritage Site in St. Lucia, continues to demonstrate its commitment to sustainable practices and community support. Recently recertified by Green Globe with an impressive compliance score of 91%, the resort remains dedicated to enhancing both the guest experience and the well-being of the local community.

Christian Gandara, General Manager of Ladera Resort, expressed his pride in the resort’s stewardship of the land and community. “Ladera Resort is privileged to be located on a UNESCO ridge between the iconic Piton Mountains. We take our responsibility seriously, not only in preserving this beautiful environment but also in supporting our surrounding community,” Gandara said.



The resort’s farm-to-table restaurant, Dasheene, reflects this commitment by sourcing ingredients from local farms. Additionally, the resort’s suites are furnished with handcrafted items made in their woodshop, and local children benefit from education initiatives funded by the resort. Community Impact and CSR Initiatives Since its initial Green Globe certification in 2018, Ladera Resort has continued to make significant contributions to the local community.

The resort has adopted two primary schools in the Soufriere basin, resulting in several impactful projects: Ladera Resort also participates in the annual Christmas Toy Drive in partnership with the Ministry of Youth Development & Sports of Saint Lucia. The Adopt-an-Angel initiative, supported by staff, guests, and the public, provides gifts to underprivileged children aged five to twelve. Additionally, the resort makes weekly food donations to a local soup kitchen to assist those in need.

Sustainable Practices at Ladera Resort Ladera Resort is deeply committed to sustainable tourism. The resort offers nature-based activities that highlight and protect the island’s rich biodiversity. As part of their Green Team efforts, staff members regularly engage in community clean-up programs to reduce environmental impact.

The resort’s kitchen sources 70% of its produce locally and organically, supporting local farmers and reducing its carbon footprint. Water and energy conservation are also integral to the resort’s operations. A rainwater harvesting system collects and stores water for landscape irrigation, while solar water heaters provide hot water for guest suites and the kitchen.
