While there has been no confirmation of a national pageant, she said she would prepare herself well to represent the Friendly North. “I will make sure to showcase our beautiful town to the rest of Fiji,” Ms Waqaniburotu said.

In an interview with this newspaper, she said she would advocate on issues faced by the town and its people. “I hope to be a better advocate for the people of the North as well.” In response, Festival of the Friendly North committee president Zaheen Ibrahim reaffirmed their support for Ms Waqaniburotu and Labasa Town Council.

“We will fully support the Labasa Town Council,” Ms Ibrahim said. Apart from the winning the Miss Friendly North crown, Ms Waqaniburotu also bagged Miss Charity title after her team raised more than $19,000. She had also won the best talent and sarong categories.
