Emmy winner Kyle Chandler (“Friday Night Lights,” “The Wolf of Wall Street”) is set to play legendary Green Lantern Corps member Hal Jordan in HBO’s DC Comics-based “Lanterns” series. Boasting a gritty “True Detective”-esque tone, the film focuses on Jordan reluctantly mentoring a younger Lantern, John Stewart, as the pair are on Earth investigating a murder with larger implications. Producers are reportedly looking for a young and fresh-faced actor for the John Stewart role to play opposite Chandler.
DC initially was in talks with Josh Brolin who ultimately passed, instead they’ve opted for Chandler who is well-known but mostly for his TV work. The series scored a straight-to-series order in June and hails from Chris Mundy (“Ozark”), Damon Lindelof (“Watchmen”) and Eisner Award-winning comics writer Tom King. All three are co-writing and executive producing and Mundy is showrunner.
