KUWAIT CITY, Aug 21: The Cabinet convened its weekly session on Tuesday morning, August 20, 2024, at Bayan Palace, under the chairmanship of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. Following the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sherida Abdullah Al-Muasherji made the following statement: “At the outset, the Cabinet heard an explanation from His Excellency the First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah regarding directives from the political leadership to provide comprehensive support to governors, empowering them to play a more significant role in advancing the country’s development. The Cabinet approved a draft decree to amend certain provisions of Decree No.

81 of 2014 concerning governorates. This amendment aims to enhance governors’ authority to oversee the implementation of state policies, monitor development projects, and contribute to improving service levels across all governorates, reflecting Kuwait’s progressive image. The ministers were instructed to coordinate with governors to meet their needs, with the goal of improving the efficiency and quality of services provided to citizens and residents.



” The Cabinet expressed joy upon the return of His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Oil, Dr. Emad Mohammed Al-Ateeqi, who recovered from a health issue while abroad. The Council also examined a visual presentation from Her Excellency the Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs, Minister of State for Youth Affairs, and Chairwoman of the Supreme Organizing Committee for the Arabian Gulf Cup Football Championship (Gulf 26), Dr.

Amthal Hadi Al-Huwailah, along with leaders of the Public Authority for Sports. The presentation detailed Kuwait’s preparations to host Gulf 26 from December 21, 2024, to January 3, 2025. Dr.

Al-Huwailah explained the work of the Supreme Committee and its sub-committees, including Finance, Media, Security, Opening and Closing Ceremonies, and Public Relations. These efforts, in cooperation with relevant government bodies, aim to present the championship in a manner befitting Kuwait’s prominent status and the significance of this major sporting event. Additionally, the Council of Ministers received an update from His Excellency the Minister of Health, Dr.

Ahmed Abdul Wahab Al-Awadhi, on the latest global developments regarding monkeypox (mpox) and the reported cases worldwide. Dr. Al-Awadhi confirmed that the Ministry of Health has implemented all necessary preventive measures and stocked medical supplies to protect Kuwait from this disease.

He emphasized that no cases of monkeypox have been detected in Kuwait and that the Ministry remains committed to fully supporting task forces responsible for monitoring and preparedness to safeguard the health of citizens and residents. The Council praised the Ministry of Health, its officials, and staff for their diligence in monitoring global health developments related to monkeypox and their dedication to ensuring the well-being of the population, wishing everyone continued health and safety. The Council also reviewed a report from His Excellency the Minister of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy and Minister of State for Housing Affairs, Dr.

Mahmoud Abdulaziz Bushehri, on the current electricity situation in Kuwait, including the production capacity of the country’s power plants and the Ministry’s future energy projects. The Council of Ministers was informed that the Public Authority for Combating Corruption (Nazaha) had referred several former officials, employees, and others to the Public Prosecution for allegedly committing crimes related to facilitating the embezzlement of public funds and causing significant harm to the state’s interests and finances. Additionally, these individuals are suspected of violations concerning the declaration of financial assets, which are punishable under Law No.

2 of 2016 that established the Public Authority for Combating Corruption and outlined provisions for financial asset disclosure. In this context, the Council of Ministers reaffirmed its commitment and determination to continue efforts and procedures to safeguard public funds and enforce laws against anyone who attempts to violate the sanctity of public assets. Finally, the Cabinet approved the minutes of the Higher Committee for the Investigation of Kuwaiti Nationality, which included cases of loss and withdrawal of Kuwaiti citizenship from individuals who obtained it fraudulently, in accordance with the provisions of Decree-Law No. 15 of 1959 concerning Kuwaiti nationality and its amendments. The Council of Ministers expressed its support for the sincere efforts of the Chairman and members of the Higher Committee for the Investigation of Kuwaiti Nationality to preserve the country’s national identity.
