Krumpets Restaurant and Bakery, a long-standing institution at 1016 Fourth St. in Fulton, Illinois, is under the new ownership of Jay and Jenna Sanders, owners of 392 Caffe is Clinton. “Krumpets has been such a rewarding journey for us,” Manreet Kalyan, who previously owned the business with wife Melanie, said.
“We’re confident the new owners will bring fresh energy and continue providing the great food and welcoming atmosphere Krumpets is known for.” The restaurant and bakery had operated in Clinton until 2013 when then-owner Renee Holmes, with the aid of the Fulton Retail Development Group, moved the business to the more spacious building in downtown Fulton that had housed Berg Pharmacy for many years. The Fulton Retail Development Group provided aid again in the sale of Krumpets to the Kalyans in 2021 when Holmes, Manreet said, was eager to sell in the midst of challenges brought on by the Covid pandemic.
“It’s been an honor to build on what Renee started and serve this amazing community,” Manreet said. “As for the decision to sell, it felt like the right time for us to step back and explore other opportunities.” In between conducting interviews with potential new employees at 392 Caffe in Clinton on Monday, Jay told The Herald that he and wife Jenna had taken over operating Krumpets after Jenna’s father Dann Stuhlman had bought the building in October.
“They came to us discreetly,” Jay said, recalling thinking when he’d learned the Kalyans were.
