Monday, September 9, 2024 In anticipation of Chuseok , Korea’s beloved mid-autumn harvest festival, Korean Air recently extended its spirit of sharing and community by hosting a special meal event for elderly residents in Seoul’s Gangseo District. On September 30, about 30 employees from Korean Air volunteered their time at a local senior citizen center to prepare and serve traditional Korean holiday dishes to more than 600 seniors. This year marks the second annual occurrence of this heartfelt initiative, conducted in partnership with Korean Air CND Services, the airline’s affiliate specializing in catering and duty-free services.

The inflight chefs from Korean Air crafted a menu featuring eight traditional dishes. The culinary spread included beef japchae (stir-fried glass noodles with vegetables), taro beef radish soup, a trio of savory Korean pancakes, and a refreshing fruit salad. The festivities continued with the serving of popular Korean holiday desserts like songpyeon (half-moon-shaped rice cakes), red bean bread, yakshik (sweet rice mixed with nuts and jujubes), and sikhye (a traditional sweet rice punch).

Korean Air’s dedication to community involvement shines through its consistent efforts to support local communities during major Korean festivals such as Chuseok and the Lunar New Year. Over the years, the airline has also made significant contributions to the community by donating approximately 98 tons of rice, affirming its commitment to giving back and fostering a sense of togetherness..
