Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy on Wednesday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for announcing Zaheerabad as Industrial Smart City. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Modi has approved the setting up of 12 new Industrial Smart Cities. Approval was done under the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP) with an estimated investment of Rs.

28,602 crore. The industrial smart city in Zaheerabad to be developed for a project cost of Rs.2,361 crore as a part of the Hyderabad Nagpur Industrial Corridor (HNIC).



Target sectors for the Zaheerabad Industrial Smart City have been identified as automobile, electrical equipment, food processing, machinery and equipment, metals and non-metallic based industries, transport equipment. The project is estimated to generate about 1,74,000 employment opportunities and attract investments worth Rs 10,000 crore. Despite persistent global challenges, India's overall exports (merchandise plus services) stood at USD 776.
