Union minister for coal and mines G. Kishan Reddy said Sushma Swaraj had played a key role in defending the bifurcation demand on the floor of the House in Parliament. Paying tributes to the BJP former leader on her death anniversary at the state BJP office at Nampally, the minister said Sushma Swaraj stood with the people of Telangana when the erstwhile Congress government imposed severe restrictions and tried to crush the `Sakala Janula Samme’ programme.

Recalling the role played by Sushma Swaraj as Leader of Opposition when the bifurcation bill was introduced in the Parliament, Kishan Reddy said, "Even when the pepper spray was used to disrupt the proceedings, Sushma Swaraj firmly stood in support of the bill and managed to get the support from 160 MP in the house,” he said..
