There’s been a growing sentiment since the beginning of college football season that perhaps longtime ESPN “College GameDay” analyst Lee Corso should retire. The 89-year-old has been a lighthearted staple on Saturday mornings as part of the “CGD” crew, and his headgear pick for the Game of the Week predictions has become a weekend tradition for many during college football season. But in his advanced age, it’s clear Corso isn’t as sharp as he once was.

Some age- and health-related issues have really shown through on “College GameDay” broadcasts this year, and fellow “CGD” host Kirk Herbstreit has been vigilant to lend his close friend a helping hand when Corso struggles to find the right words or has trouble finishing a thought. And Herbstreit’s classy moves haven’t gone unnoticed by the show’s audience. Andrew Wevers-Imagn Images “Huge props to Kirk Herbstreit man.

Lee Corso has struggled on gameday, and Kirk has seamlessly and subtly helped and carried him. Huge fan of Kirk,” one fan commented . “Kirk Herbstreit is such a kind and gentle friend to Lee Corso on Gameday.

He’s always patient with him and when Coach talks he gets close to make sure he can hear and support him. Takes care of him like he’s his son. So beautiful,” remarked one X user .

“U can tell Kirk Herbstreit genuinely loves Lee Corso,” another user said . Corso has been a fixture on “College GameDay” for the entirety of the show’s 37-year history. Herbstreit joined the show in 1996, where his obvious on-screen chemistry with Corso is one of the things fans have come to enjoy most about the show.
