Kiran Rao has opened up about her life post-divorce from Aamir Khan, revealing that she’s found happiness in their separation. In a recent chat with journalist Faye D’Souza, Rao reflected on the emotional journey of their split, which was confirmed in July 2021. “It’s been a very happy divorce,” Rao declared, making it clear that while parting ways was not an easy choice, she believes it was necessary.

She emphasized the importance of evolving relationships, stating, “As we grow as individuals, our needs change. This decision was what I felt would lead to my happiness, and honestly, it has.” Kiran, who shares a son named Azad with Aamir, shared that prior to her marriage, she had relished her independence.

“Before Aamir, I was single for a long time. I enjoyed that independence immensely. While loneliness was a factor back then, I’m not lonely now.

I have Azad, and that makes a world of difference,” she noted. She further mentioned that support from both their families has made the transition smoother, saying, “I haven’t felt lonely at all. It’s been all good stuff.

” While Kiran acknowledged that their 15-year marriage came to a close after much deliberation, she revealed that Aamir took his time to come to terms with the emotional aspects of the separation. “It wasn’t easy for either of us. It took Aamir a while to adjust emotionally and mentally,” she explained, adding that her desire for personal space and time made her confident in surviving the divorce.

In her heartfelt conclusion, Kiran emphasized that their relationship still holds significant value, stating, “Even though we are no longer married, we don’t need a piece of paper to define our bond. We share a lot of love and respect, along with a rich history filled with laughter and shared beliefs. I didn’t want to lose that connection.

I realized that we could acknowledge our partnership without being tied by marriage. It’s a partnership that will endure, no matter the divorce.”.
