The 'King of ' claims that Brits had 'fun' in the Spanish floods - by floating on inflatables in the 'street river'. Nigel Pope, 63, who is originally from Cornwall, moved to the Costa Blanca hotspot seven years ago. The bloke quickly made himself at home and has racked up 70,000 followers for his digital Benidorm tour guides, hence his 'royal' title.
And that means Nigel is in the know about the goings on in the 'sunny all year round' holiday destination. However, Benidorm's good weather disappeared for a day after experiencing torrential downpours like much of Spain. Despite Valencia, that is only 90 minutes up the road, suffering from 'apocalyptic' flash flooding that has tragically seen at least 200 lose their lives, Benidorm was mostly unscathed.
Although some of the Costa Blanca coastal resort's streets 'turned into rivers', apparently Brits have turned a blind eye away from the potential danger in the name of fun. Speaking exclusively to Daily Star, Nigel told us: "When it's heavy rain and the streets have been like rivers, British tourists sometimes get their inflatables out and have fun in them in the streets. "People make fun out of them [the rivers] - obviously not if it's really bad.
Most people stay in the bars and restaurants and enjoy themselves as the rain never normally lasts too long here. "The flooding has never been a problem for us [me and my wife] as we live on the 5th floor and on a hill so we just watch it pass by." Instead of blowing up a rubber unico.
