King Charles III and Queen Camilla are gearing up for a big day in the nation’s capital. The British royals are expected to arrive in Canberra late Monday morning, where they will visit the Australian War Memorial and the Australian National Botanic Gardens. The King and Queen will meet with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese at Parliament House where they will be received about 1pm with a 21-gun salute. They will attend a reception for political and community leaders, and Australians who have excelled in the fields of health, arts, culture and sport.
Inside Parliament House’s Great Hall, Albanese and his fiancee Jodie Haydeon will host a reception. Charles and Camilla will then separate for individual engagements. The King will visit the CSIRO, meeting with scientists who will speak about their work dealing with the impact of bushfires in Australia.
Meanwhile, Camilla will participate in a discussion on family and domestic violence, and meet representatives from GIVIT, the Australian charity of which she is patron. Streets are expected to close across the city and those travelling are advised to leave plenty of time. This is Charles’ 17th visit to Australia, the most recent of which came in 2018.
However, this trip will be his first as monarch.
