Pune: Police are clueless about the whereabouts of the main suspect in the Kondhwa firing case, nine days after three assailants opened fire at brick kiln owner Dilip Gaikwad (48) on Sept 16 near Shatrunjay temple. The prime suspect had hired the trio to execute the crime. He is still at large.
The police are also searching for a Yerawada resident, who supplied the firearm used in the crime to the attackers. "The three arrested assailants — Bablu Sayyed (18), Akash Jagtap (21) and Tanmay Bhusari (21) — told us during their custodial interrogation that the main suspect, their friend and son-in-law of Dilip's elder brother, Raju (49), promised them a handsome amount to carry out the attack. They have not revealed the exact amount yet," said inspector (crime) Mansingh Patil, who is investigating the case.
Patil said, "Our teams have made multiple visits to the main suspect's residence at Kakade Vasti, besides his sister's house in Alandi and his ancestral home in Latur, but he was not found there. We have asked the Alandi and the Latur police units to keep a watch in case he reaches there." Senior inspector Vinay Patankar said, "The three assailants, the main conspirator and the firearm supplier are known to each other.
The firearm supplier has no criminal antecedents. We would be in a position to establish the exact source of the firearm smuggled into Pune from some place in Madhya Pradesh once we arrest the two wanted suspects. We are working on certain clues and are colle.
