Emem Julius The chairperson of Kenyan Women Engineers Committee, Engr. Jennifer Gache has canvassed the inclusion of engineers in Nigeria’s policy formulation process so that engineering sector can assist the nation achieve rapid development. Gache made the advocacy on Monday in Calabar, the Cross River State capital during a dinner party organised by the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria to host women engineers across the continent of Africa.

Speaking on the theme ‘Engineers’ Innovation and Energy Security for Sustainable Future,’ Gache stressed that the non-inclusion of engineers in policy formulation is responsible for failure in policy implementation in the area that bothers on engineering, a situation she said is retarding the sector. Advising women engineers to seek leadership positions in the government of Nigeria, Gache stated that the positions will afford them the privilege to contribute immensely to the growth of the sector and the nation at large. She said, “You don’t make policies without engaging engineers.



Engineers should also be availed of the opportunity to participate in the policy process and implementation. “Engineers are wired with challenges that can be solved only by those in the profession. You cannot call engineers when you have already done the design.
