When Kelly Brook revealed her husband's ruthless nickname for her after she gained weight, her fans told her to ditch him. The Celebrity Race Across the World stars have been married since 2022. However, in 2019, Kelly, 44, admitted the Italian, 39, had called her a "balloon" after she used the term to describe herself.
Admitting the couple had been tucking into pies and pints of Guinness at their local pub, which had 'piled on the pounds', she told Heart radio : “What happened was – I had been living in the countryside for the past few years with Jeremy, my boyfriend, and you know we just got in to English life, going to the pub, having a pint of Guinness and nice pies. “Over time, I was putting on the pounds and not really noticing, I was just wearing baggier clothes until one day I came in, bear in mind my boyfriend’s French so his English is a little limited. And I said ‘Oh Jeremy I feel like a balloon’ and he went ‘Oh come here you little balloon’.
And so he got the word from me, I don’t even think he knew what a balloon was.” After revealing the brutal nickname, Jeremy faced a heap of backlash from Kelly's fans. However, the model insisted her husband got the word 'balloon' from her while revealing she had also been trolled online because of her weight.
Speaking to Fabulous Online after dropping to a size 12 and shedding 1st 1lb after starting a SlimFast diet in October five years ago, she said: “My boyfriend said I looked like a little balloon, it wasn’t just trolls it was him as well.” Talking to Heart, Kelly admitted she had “stitched him up a bit” by revealing the nickname, stating: “Actually it’s not even his word it’s what I call myself. But he has been calling me his little balloon ever since.
So it was a really cute thing that’s now turned in to this whole controversy. Everyone’s saying I should dump him, get rid of him, I’m like ‘Oh my god poor Jeremy’.” The couple are now competing in a star-studded version of BBC show Race Across The World.
Speaking ahead of the series, which is filmed in South America, Kelly admitted the show wasn't all romance and relaxation. Chatting to Closer magazine, she spilled: "We hadn't had a honeymoon and I said to Jeremy we should consider this as a fun alternative, a once-in-a-lifetime experience. At times, it was the honeymoon from hell - at other times it was absolutely glorious.
It's got to be the most memorable honeymoon ever." The programme also shed light on Jeremy's ultra-competitive streak, which was news to Kelly - while he discovered her not-so-sunny side. She revealed: "I didn't realise how competitive he was, like, crazy competitive.
