The National Toothbrushing Day annual event started 16 years ago and schools like Vuya District School in Bua continue to mark the special day by getting students to participate in the celebration. The school in Nabouwalu, Bua in observing the special day were visited by the dental team from the Nabouwalu Hospital. The Health and Medical Services Minister, Dr Antonio Lalabalavu in opening the event in Suva said the National Toothbrushing Day was an annual event that raised awareness on the importance of toothbrushing and that it was an investment to health, confidence and the future.

Vuya District School, head of school, Epeli Rokotuibete said the school was selected by the dental team for the visit. He said it was held on July 31 and the school had organised a short program that was assigned for toothbrushing. “The 183 students of Vuya District received their toothbrush and toothpaste during the program,” he said.



The dental kits were part of the Colgate toothbrushing kit that was distributed to 175,877 participants in schools and organisations. The event according to Colgate-Palmolive (Fiji) Pte Ltd culminated with a cheerful countdown and a ‘brush off’ where participants across the country brushed their teeth in a synchronised routine that highlighted their commitment to maintaining a national wide focus on oral health..
