Monday, November 11, 2024 Kaziranga National Park became a living classroom for a dedicated eco-tour group from the 39th Mebo Assembly Constituency, consisting of Head Gaon Burahs (HGBs), Gaon Burahs (GBs), village secretaries, and cleanliness mission leaders, who returned on November 9 after an insightful two-day tour. The journey aimed to immerse participants in the principles of eco-tourism and conservation, offering valuable lessons to replicate within their own communities. The trip was launched on November 7 by Mebo MLA Oken Tayeng, with Extra Assistant Commissioner Toni Mitkong, local leaders, military personnel from the Sigar Military Station, and other village officials in attendance.

Supported by the Sigar Military Station, the group embarked from Mebo Char-ali to Kaziranga, traveling in two buses. Their mission: to study Kaziranga’s successful integration of eco-tourism, homestays, and wildlife conservation, with an eye toward implementing similar strategies around the D. Ering Wildlife Sanctuary in East Siang District, a region dotted with vibrant villages like Sigar, Motum, Borguli, Seram, and Namsing.

During the flag-off ceremony, MLA Tayeng highlighted the significance of this exposure trip, noting that it would inspire village authorities to see eco-tourism as a pathway to both economic growth and environmental stewardship. He praised the strong civil-military partnership that supported the trip, a collaboration that mirrors the area’s commitment to sustai.
