Sunday, September 8, 2024 Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve is set to welcome tourists once again starting October 1, 2024, marking the beginning of the new season. This announcement was officially made by the Office of the Divisional Forest Officer, Eastern Assam Wildlife Division, in a letter dated September 7. The reopening of the park, known for its vast biodiversity, will be subject to favorable weather conditions to ensure the safety and enjoyment of visitors.

Due to the current road conditions caused by heavy rains, the park will initially open only for Jeep Safaris in three specific ranges: Kaziranga Range (Kohora), Western Range (Bagori), and Burapahar Range (Ghorakati). The available routes and timings will remain in place until further notice from the authorities. Visitors can experience the wildlife of Kaziranga on safaris held twice a day, with the morning shift running from 7:30 AM to 10 AM, and the afternoon shift from 1:30 PM to 3 PM.

Sonali Ghosh, the Field Director of Kaziranga National Park, emphasized that the safety and satisfaction of tourists will be the top priority for the upcoming season. Measures will be in place to ensure that visitors can enjoy the park’s offerings without compromising their well-being. The park has historically faced weather-related challenges, especially flooding caused by the Brahmaputra River, which necessitates its closure from May to October each year.

This year, the monsoon floods in Assam have been particularly devastating, claiming the lives of 215 animals at Kaziranga National Park so far. Among the species affected were 168 Hog Deer, 2 Swamp Deer, 5 Wild Pigs, and a variety of other animals. Tragically, some of these animals died due to drowning, while others succumbed to vehicle accidents or other flood-related issues.

Despite these challenges, Kaziranga remains one of India’s most iconic wildlife destinations. It is globally renowned for its population of one-horned rhinoceroses and is home to a rich array of other wildlife, including elephants, tigers, and diverse bird species. The park offers a unique experience for nature enthusiasts and families looking to explore its remarkable landscapes and fauna.

For those planning a visit, Kaziranga National Park promises not only an adventure but also an opportunity to witness the resilience of nature in the face of adversity. The park’s reopening is eagerly awaited by tourists and conservationists alike, as it continues to play a vital role in protecting India’s wildlife heritage..
