Friday, January 24, 2025 Kazakhstan begins constructing three airports in Zaisan, Katon-Karagay, and Kendirli to boost tourism. Construction has commenced on three new airports in Kazakhstan’s vacation hotspots: Zaisan, Katon-Karagay, and Kendirli. Directed by the nation’s leadership, these initiatives aim to revitalize local economies, enhance access for both national and international visitors, and create job opportunities for the local populace.

The enhancement extends to upgrading air transport facilities across Kazakhstan. Newly opened passenger terminals in Almaty, Shymkent, and Kyzylorda in 2024 have significantly boosted their operational capacities, streamlining air travel within and beyond the country’s borders. Almaty International Airport has notably expanded its capacity, now handling up to 14 million passengers annually.



This hub supports several domestic carriers such as Air Astana, SCAT, Qazaq Air, and Fly Arystan, connecting to 19 cities across Kazakhstan. Moreover, it offers international routes to 26 countries via 50 distinct routes serviced by 30 overseas airlines. Shymkent’s airport capacity has risen sharply, accommodating up to 6 million passengers each year.

It has launched 10 new international routes, connecting travelers directly to cities like Jeddah, Medina, Doha, Phu Quoc, and Phuket, totaling 24 international flights weekly. Kyzylorda’s Korkyt Ata International Airport has also expanded, increasing its capacity to 2 million passengers a.
