Wednesday, November 6, 2024 Kazakhstan has announced its commitment to producing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) as part of a new collaboration with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The announcement was made during ICAO Week in Kazakhstan at a regional seminar titled “Green Airports,” co-hosted by the ICAO European and North Atlantic Bureau and ACI EUROPE. This significant event brought together key officials, including Kazakhstan’s Vice Minister of Transport Talgat Lastayev, ICAO European and North Atlantic Office Regional Director Nicolas Rallo, ACI Europe Director General Olivier Jankovec, and Kazakhstan’s Civil Aviation Committee Chairwoman Saltanat Tompiyeva.

Representatives from international aviation organizations, airports across Kazakhstan and Europe, and various airlines were also in attendance. The ICAO Green Airports Regional Seminar provided an essential platform to discuss the development of low-carbon airports, focusing on the role of SAF and other sustainable energy sources in reducing aviation’s environmental footprint. Vice Minister Lastayev highlighted Kazakhstan’s dedication to green aviation, stating, “Kazakhstan fully supports the ACI ‘Green Airports’ initiative to minimize aviation’s impact on the environment.
