The singer’s rollout for her sixth studio album, titled 143, has been marred by controversy, after news that her first single, Woman’s World, saw her working with Dr. Luke again.
Since then, her newest single, Lifetimes, has also faced backlash, from fans who have wondered if her songwriters had gone on strike , others who called it “generic” and “unpolished,” and begged her to just “scrap” the entire album . According to reports, the Environmental Department of the Balearic Islands, where the Lifetimes video filmed, has opened an inquiry to determine if Perry and her production company caused environmental damage while filming at the protected dunes of S’Espalmador.
According to Billboard , the dunes are one of the most ecologically prosperous enclaves in the Spanish Islands, and the production company didn’t request the proper authorization before filming it. A press release from the Environmental Department stated that one of the scenes in the video was filmed in the dunes of S’Espalmador, in an area that was marked as prohibited by ropes. The video “is not a crime against the environment” but is being seen as an “infringement” as filming “can be authorized” when it is properly requested.
Following backlash over the track also being produced by Dr. Luke, fans also reacted to the news of the inquiry, pointing out that Perry isn’t having the most success when it comes to releasing the new album.
