Katy Perry 's seventh album 143 faced harsh criticism from music reviewers upon its release Thursday. The album, Perry's first in four years, has been described as underwhelming by several major publications, following her stunt at the VMAs . However, Katy has tried to put this to the side as she took to the stage to perform jaw-dropping aerial stunts during the Rock in Rio Festival on Friday.

Katy Perry's American Idol run — from 'tension' backstage to 'inflated salary' Katy Perry doesn't think Jelly Roll is good replacement for her on American Idol At one point during the performance, Katy was lifted into the air above the cheering audience by various rope-like pieces that seemingly glowed with the stage lights. Katy has been trying to put her album reviews behind her, with Variety critic Steven J. Horowitz commenting: "The album is flat, coasting on cascades of lyrical clichés and musical ideas that rarely crest.

Across many of its 11 songs, Perry sounds disaffected and removed, as if she'd just punched in between 'American Idol' tapings." The album comes after Perry talked about her brief year-long split with Orlando Bloom . Horowitz added: "Like with her past few albums, the lyricism on '143' is rife with clichés, as though it was generated through AI.

" The Guardian gave the album two out of five stars, with critic Alexis Petridis stating: "It feels slightly out of time, a common-or-garden mediocre pop album with the misfortune to be scheduled in the wake of Charli xcx's Brat, Chappell Roan's The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess and Sabrina Carpenter's Short N' Sweet, a trio of messily inventive and hugely successful albums that collectively suggest a certain raising of the pop bar has taken place." AP's Mark Kennedy called the album uninspired and forgettable, particularly criticizing the final track Wonder as "a cynical attempt to have moms in the audience wave their hands in unison as balloons float up, even as it decries cynicism." The Independent also gave 143 two stars, describing it as "painfully dated and glaringly out of touch.

Despite critical reception, Perry has received support from fans on social media and from her husband, actor Orlando Bloom. Representatives for Perry have not commented on the reviews.
