Kathy Bates is not giving Ozempic all the credit for her hard work. Since beginning her weight loss journey in 2017 after being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 2017, the Titanic actress has lost 100 pounds—but she’s not chalking it all up to Ozempic . While she revealed she lost 20 pounds on the Type 2 diabetes drug, she shed 80 pounds with lifestyle and diet changes.

“There’s been a lot of talk that I just was able to do this because of Ozempic,” Kathy told People in an article published Oct. 9. “But I have to impress upon people out there that this was hard work for me, especially during the pandemic.



It’s very hard to say you’ve had enough.” And the American Horror Story actress shared that her diabetes diagnosis in 2017 was a real wake up call for her reclaiming her worth. “I ate because I was afraid,” she explained.

“And I ate because it was a big FU to my self-esteem.” The 76-year-old added that diabetes runs in her family, so she knew she needed to take the disease seriously. “I’d seen what my father had gone through,” she explained.

“He had had a leg amputation. One of my sisters is dealing with it very seriously, and it terrified me. It scared me straight.

” And Kathy was also willing to divulge some of the tricks she incorporated into her routine to get healthier—including listening to her body’s cues, forgoing food after 8 p.m. and opting for heartier choices.

“I used to eat terribly,” she recalled. “Burgers and Cokes .
