Kate Winslet is set to star in “Men in Black” and “Now You See Me” screenwriter Ed Solomon’s new series “The Spot” for A24, 20th Television and Hulu. Solomon created, wrote and will showrun the project which has received a straight-to-series order, while Winslet will executive produce. The story centers on a successful surgeon (Winslet) and her schoolteacher husband starting to suspect she may be responsible for a child’s hit-and-run death.

Their quest for truth only spirals into a web of mounting suspicion and dark secrets. She’s not the only high-profile actress scoring a straight-to-series order today. Former “Game of Thrones” alum Emilia Clarke will star in the spy thriller “Ponies” which has been setup at Peacock.

The Cold War-era set series is being produced by Universal Television and co-creators Susanna Fogel (“The Flight Attendant”) and David Iserson (“Mr. Robot”) with the latter serving as showrunner. Unfolding in Moscow in 1977, the story focuses on two ‘PONIES’ (persons of no interest) who work anonymously as secretaries at the American embassy.

Things change when their husbands are killed under mysterious circumstances in the USSR and they become CIA operatives. Clarke will play Bea, an overeducated Russian-speaking child of Soviet immigrants. Yet to be cast is Twila, a small-town girl both abrasive and fearless.

Together they set out to uncover a conspiracy and unearth what made them widows. Clarke is currently filming the series adaptation of Ed Brubaker’s “Criminal” Amazon’s Prime Video. Source:.
