Chaos unfolded on the streets of Britain again in the wake of the Southport killings - as hundreds of people took to the streets in Birmingham and Plymouth while speculation of further protests ran rampant on social media.

And during Tuesday's episode of the ITV show, Kate and Ed took a brief break from discussing the riots to make a light-hearted joke about the Olympics. After discussing Team GB athletes currently competing at the Paris Olympic Games, Ed asked his co-host: 'What Olympic sport are you going to enter next time? Now that we know from Nick, that the over-50s are in. Kate laughed, replying: 'Over 50s are in? That's so exciting.

I'll tell you what, let me know what do you think I could do.' Good Morning Britain viewers have hit out at Kate Garraway and Ed Balls for 'disgusting' Olympics joke amid the ongoing riots that erupted this weekend across the UK During Tuesday's episode of the ITV show, Kate and Ed took a brief break from discussing the riots to make a light-hearted joke about the Olympics Chaos unfolded on the streets of Britain again in the wake of the Southport killings - as hundreds of people took to the streets in Birmingham and Plymouth (pictured) Kate then asked: 'Is there an Olympic sport for sitting on the sofa and drinking a cup of tea, because I'd definitely get gold in that.' Ed responded: 'Given the sports that get in the Olympics these days, it wouldn't surprise me.

' However, some viewers weren't happy about the shift of focus from the riots, and said the presenters need to get their 'priorities straight'. One penned on X: 'Not reporting the news of what's going on in Birmingham could win a gold in that one.'; 'Are you kidding me, @GMB? While the country is burning and people are living in fear, you're asking about @kategarraway's Olympic sport? Get your priorities straight! Focus on the real issues, not fluff pieces.

'; 'The country is falling apart, and you’re giggling over the Olympics.'; 'With all that's happening in the UK you waste time on this rubbish?' Just a day prior, GMB was branded 'embarrassing to the extreme' by viewers after Ed Balls interviewed his wife Yvette Cooper in a 'huge conflict of interests' on Monday's episode. Ed, 57, interviewed Home Secretary Yvette, 55, alongside Kate Garraway , who made her triumphant return to GMB following her father's illness.

Yvette was on the breakfast programme to discuss whether the police's response to the nationwide riots had been sufficient. After discussing Team GB athletes currently competing at the Paris Olympic Games, Ed asked his co-host: 'What Olympic sport are you going to enter next time? Now that we know from Nick, that the over-50s are in' Kate asked: 'Is there an Olympic sport for sitting on the sofa and drinking a cup of tea, because I'd definitely get gold in that.' However, some viewers weren't happy about the shift of focus from the riots, and said the presenters need to get their 'priorities straight' Ed and Kate questioned Yvette on the government's refusal to label the riots 'Islamophobic', as posed earlier in the programme by Zarah Sultana.

Yvette began: 'What we've seen on the streets of some cities and towns over the weekend frankly is criminal violence and thuggery. That is what it is first and foremost, and that's why it needs the full force of the law behind it.' She added: 'We have certainly seen some targetted attacks on mosques, and that clearly reflects Islamophobia.

' Largely ignoring the content of the interview, GMB viewers took exception to the decision to put Ed in such a compromising position on X, formerly Twitter. They wrote: 'Does @GMB realise just how utterly ridiculous it looks by continuing to invite @edballs on as a presenter whilst he defends the actions of the Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, his wife!?' 'Home Secretary Yvette Cooper is asked why the govt hasn't used the term 'Islamophobic'. In her answer Cooper (finally) uses the word.

As for husband interviewing wife, how does #GMB think this is tenable?' How is this @GMB being impartial and NOT a huge conflict of interest, embarrassing in the extreme..

. and he hasn't talked to the home secretery about her job and the situation..

. really? (sic)' 'Is it really appropriate that Ed Balls is hosting news coverage directly concerning the response to the protests of his wife and the government she is a part of?' 'Sorry this is insane! You can't have Ed Balls on a program 'interviewing' his own wife, what a stupid stupid editorial decision! I can't believe Yvette Cooper went along with this!' 'Why is Yvette Cooper's husband (Ed Balls) allowed to defend her abysmal handling of the race riots? I'm not sure this is allowed?'; 'I don't think Ed Balls should be interviewing Yvette Cooper on GMB. They're a married couple.

It's ridiculous.' 'Surely good practice would mean that Ed Balls should not be on a programme that is featuring his wife, the Home Secretary Yvette Cooper . Get it sorted @gmb.

' Ed and Yvette have been married since 1998 and share three children: Joe Balls, Mady Balls, and Ellie Cooper Violence erupted again in Belfast last night amid ongoing rioting around the UK It comes after Cabinet ministers blamed social media for allowing hate and fake news to be spread, leading to violent riots by the far-Right that have seen migrant hotels and mosques attacked in the wake of the Southport stabbings a week ago. False claims spread rapidly on X and other social media platforms that the suspect was a Muslim asylum seeker who arrived in the UK by boat a year previously. In fact the 17-year-old suspect was born in Cardiff and has no known links to Islam.

Last night hundreds of far-Right activists and anti-racist protesters came face-to-face in Plymouth, where beer bottles, flares and a crutch were flung through the air, leaving police officers injured. And in Birmingham a Sky News van was attacked by a knife-wielding man after members of the Muslim community gathered amid claims far-Right groups would target the Small Heath area. Police have also been warned of alleged plans by far-Right groups to hit dozens of immigration targets across Britain on Wednesday night.
