Fiji’s long-distance running sensation, Yeshnil Karan, and his team achieved second place at the Namosi Challenge, known as “Fiji’s Toughest Race” held in the Namosi highlands on Saturday. Karan led his team in the 10km team race and finished first for his team. However, they were placed second overall due to the other team members arriving late.

This was Karan’s first time participating in the Namosi marathon, and he expressed his excitement at being part of the race alongside his coach, Isireli Naikelekelevesi. Despite the team not winning the race, Karan found the experience exhilarating and enjoyed the unique challenge posed by the mountains and hills along the route, even in the rainy conditions. “This is my first ever Namosi marathon which I took part in the 10km team race, Isireli Kelekelevesi is my coach and it’s great to see my coach also participating in this race,” said Karan.

“I managed to come first for my team but although my team didn’t manage to cope up, as we came second from the team race, it was a great race I can say. “The challenge was just amazing the mountains and hills just give different vibe all together while running, even though it was raining it was just amazing to see the beautiful scenery.” Reflecting on the tough competition, Karan admitted that the race was challenging because of the hilly terrain but was proud to have finished first for his team.

He expressed his gratitude to the organisers, Suva marathon, and the event sponsors for their support. Karan also thanked his coach and family for their encouragement. Taking a break from his usual training routine, Karan saw the Namosi Challenge as an opportunity to test his abilities and have fun.

He appreciated the turnout for the event and the chance to experience the beautiful scenery of the highlands while pushing himself to the limit..
