The movie created a stir when its trailer was released. Now, just days before its release, the film has landed in major trouble after the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and the Akal Takht claimed that the movie would create a negative narrative against the Sikh community. The committee has also demanded an immediate ban on the film.
On Wednesday, SGPC chief Harjinder Singh Dhami addressed a press conference and revealed that he filed an FIR against Kangana and expressed his objections to the film. During the conference, he said that in the past, several films have hurt Sikh sentiments due to the misrepresentation of the community in movies. Calling for a ban on the film, he accused the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) of being ‘biased’ and advocated for the inclusion of Sikh members on the board.
Meanwhile, Gyani Raghbir Singh, Jathedar (head) of the Akal Takht, alleged that the film “intentionally portrays Sikhs as separatists, which he believes is part of a larger conspiracy.” He claimed that the film “disrespects” the Sikh community and accused Kangana of “deliberately assassinating” the character of Sikhs. “The community can never forget the anti-Sikh brutality of June 1984, and Ranaut’s film is trying to assassinate the character of Jarnail Singh Khalsa Bhindranwale, who has been declared a Qaumi Shaheed (community’s martyr) by Sri Akal Takht Sahib,” he said.
Singh also noted that despite Kangana’s statements about the community, no action has been taken by the government against her. About Emergency Emergency was announced in 2021. Kangana mentioned that though the film is a political drama, it is not a biopic of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Recently, the makers of the film released the trailer, which created a buzz in the industry. Kangana is not only playing the lead role but is also directing the film. The movie also features Anupam Kher, Milind Soman, Mahima Chaudhry, and Shreyas Talpade in key roles.
