Prayagraj : During the ongoing festival of Navratri , goddess Durga is being worshipped everywhere in the city, be it puja pandals or in city temples. Among these, the unique practice of taking out ‘ Kali Swang ' procession by the Daraganj Ramlila committee stands apart. While the Ramdal of this Ramlila committee was taken out in the locality on Friday night, a special episode of the Ramayana is mimed, which is called ‘Kali Swang'.
In this, the artist comes out on the streets dressed as Maa Kaali with his arms waving. Breaking the previous practice of worshipping Kali by a male member of the committee, this year, a female member applied the Tilak, after which the artist came out in the street to perform the ritual. This scene is related to incident of the Ramayana in which, after cutting off the nose and ears of Surpanakha, Khardushan comes with his army to fight against Ram.
After this, Sita herself disguises herself as Kali and walks in front of Ram's chariot and kills Khardushan. The tableaux of Lord Ram was also taken at night by the committee. tnn.
