Julianne Hough is opening up about what led to the end of her marriage to Brooks Laich . The 36-year-old Dancing With the Stars judge is currently promoting her new novel “Everything We Never Knew” and she made some appearance in New York City on Tuesday morning (August 13). Julianne also recently taped an episode of the podcast Armchair Expert in which she opened up about her divorce and the issues that led to the end of her marriage.

She revealed that Brooks dealt with a tough time in his hockey career right as they were getting married. “He was injured and then he got traded before his team that he had been there for almost 12 years won the Stanley Cup. It makes me want to cry because I feel for him so bad,” Julianne said.
“That was in 2017. That was the year we got married and the year that everything started unraveling.” Julianne said that she asked Brooks for a separation in September 2019 and her two dogs both passed away one week later.
“It was very tragic. That was all kind of happening at the same time and it was an unraveling,” she said. “Everything that I had ever known, that I had put in place for my control and my protection .
.. I had this marriage to this guy who represented more of a father figure to me, and while he was changing, I was changing.
” “I [felt like] I literally blew up my entire life and I have nothing,” she added. Julianne talked about the regrets that both she and Brooks have about their relationship. “I feel like our relationship and our marriage was exactly right, and the end of it is right too,” Julianne said on the podcast.
“We both have regrets that it didn’t work out because I don’t think we had the maturity to come together.” She added, “I’ve only dated great human beings. He’s got the greatest heart that I could have ever had the privilege of being with.
