Tuesday, January 21, 2025 The City of Johannesburg has unveiled a new chapter in its efforts to enhance tourism with the official launch of the Tourism Ambassador Programme. After months of preparation, 227 ambassadors have been deployed to key locations and attractions across the city to elevate safety, provide better information services, and enrich the overall experience for visitors. This initiative, which began its groundwork in November 2024, demonstrates Johannesburg’s commitment to becoming a premier urban tourism destination.
To ensure the program’s success, participants underwent an intensive training regimen designed in collaboration with the city’s Department of Public Safety. The training included 10 critical modules, ranging from first aid and fire prevention to service excellence and information dissemination. The program aims to equip ambassadors with the knowledge and skills needed to serve as the city’s tourism representatives, capable of addressing safety concerns while promoting Johannesburg’s attractions.
The program’s training also prepares ambassadors to address unforeseen emergencies, making them valuable resources for tourists navigating the city. Their presence not only enhances the safety of visitors but also strengthens Johannesburg’s reputation as a tourist-friendly urban hub. One of the program’s standout features is its dual focus on tourism enhancement and youth empowerment.
