Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s speeches usually hit his pet themes - the border, the economy, crime - but I’ve never heard him mention Biden in the first 25 minutes of a rally as often as he has just mentioned Harris. He is going full throttle against her, describing her as “a radical crazy person” who is “worse than [progressive left wing Senator] Bernie Sanders” and claiming (falsely) that she wants to confiscate guns and “take away your Second Amendment”. It’s an insight into how the next few months are likely to play out before voters head to the polls on November 5.

“If you want socialist health care, nation-wrecking inflation, the death of American energy, and a lyin’ radical left liberal San Francisco extremist as your commander in chief, then Kamala Harris is your candidate ,” Trump told his fans in North Carolina. Trump won North Carolina by a tiny 1.4 per cent in 2020, but Republicans fear the Dems could flip it this year, so they’ve embarked on a strategy called ‘Operation Domino’ to help Trump retain the state. It’s here that the conservative-dominated state legislature recently redrew the congressional map to give Republicans an advantage – a process known as partisan “gerrymandering” – which could help the party flip several Democrat seats in Congress. Trump is currently in North Carolina, where he has ramped up his attack against Kamala Harris, describing her as “lyin’ Kamala” and “an ultra-Liberal”.

Speaking at a rally from Charlotte in North Carolina, Trump accused Harris of being the most left wing politician in the country’s history. “Kamala, get out of here, you’re fired!” he told his loyal supporters in Charlotte. “I’ve never seen a turnaround like this.

Three weeks ago, four weeks ago, she was the worst politician in America. Now they’re saying: it’s amazing, look at her, she’s so beautiful.” Donald Trump at an earlier rally.

Credit: AP Good morning and welcome to our live coverage of the US election as President Joe Biden is due to speak from the Oval Office. Here’s an update of what has been happening in US politics recently: Earlier this morning, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faced a political boycott, public protests, and the absence of Vice President Kamala Harris as he addressed a joint sitting of the US Congress amid ongoing outrage over the war in Gaza. On Monday, US President Joe Biden announced he would no longer be running for re-election as president, putting his support behind Harris.

Harris secured enough delegates for nomination as donations rolled in on Tuesday. In Harris’ first rally, she framed the election as a choice between “freedom and chaos”. Republican presidential candidate has attacked Harris as the most left-wing vice president the country has ever had in its history.
