Missing the end of the DNC, where his vice president Kamala Harris was officially nominated as the Democrat candidate for the 2024 election , he and Jill jetted off to Santa Ynez, California , where a billionaire donor friend owns a 8,000-acre estate. After arriving in the Golden State on Friday night, the Bidens flew out on Sunday to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, where they own a vacation home and often visit during the summer.

The pair flew out from California on Air Force One, arriving at Dover Air Force Base, in the centre of the state. The 81-year-old missed the rest of the DNC festivities in Chicago, including the coronation of his vice president as the party nominee, for some downtime with his family just weeks after he dropped out of the race. He and first lady Jill Biden made their farewell addresses to Democrats , took a final bow to cheers and whistles, and then exited the arena.

But they will be staying in luxury. The couple will be staying at an 8,000-acre Santa Ynez Valley ranch owned by Democratic donor, billionaire Joe Kiani, local media reported. The property sits about three hours north of Los Angeles in Santa Barbara wine country.

Kiani has been a major donor to Biden's campaigns and a friend to the family. Hunter Biden paid a visit to the $50 million vineyard property last year. Dubbed the ' Kiani Preserve ,' the 8,000 acres has its own private vineyard, donkeys and a cattle herd.

The vineyard on the property produces bottles of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, among other wines. The first couple arrived in Chicago Monday afternoon alongside grandkids Natalie and Hunter, grandson-in-law Peter Neal and son-in-law Howard Krein. The Bidens have traditionally brought an assortment of family members on their vacations to St. Croix, Nantucket, Kiawah Island and Lake Tahoe.

He is expected to do so for Santa Ynez. In California he is 'going to spend time with his family,' Jean-Pierre said. This week's trip will mark the first time the first family has traveled to the Santa Barbara area and the White House has been tight-lipped on details.

In the past, the Bidens have also borrowed vacation homes from top donors. In Nantucket, they've stayed at a waterfront compound that belongs to David Rubenstein, which is valued at $34million. The tony Massachusetts island is where the Bidens spend Thanksgivings.

On St. Croix - where the family likes to spend new year's - they've stayed at a house that belongs to billionaire Democratic donors Bill and Connie Neville. The Bidens are expected to stay in California until Sunday - fully missing the rest of the Democratic National Convention - which ends Thursday.

After that, the White House said they will travel to a second vacation destination - their beach house in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
