The official trailer for has dropped promising stellar performances from and Joaquin Phoenix as their chaotic love story unfolds onscreen. The film will see Phoenix return to his role as the infamous villain, The Joker, with Gaga starring as the queen of chaos, Harley Quinn. In the new trailer, Phoenix is seen belting out Stevie Wonder's For Once In My Life while smoking a cigarette in prison.

He also shares a moonlit waltz with Gaga, as they dance on the iconic steps from the first film. The sequel, directed by Todd Phillips, is a musical fantasy that follows Arthur Fleck known as The Joker and Quinn as they fall in love at Gotham City's Arkham Asylum. The pair are notorious for their toxic romantic relationship in the comics.

At one point, Gaga's Quinn tells him: "You can do anything you want, you're Joker" before they share a passionate kiss. She is also seen applying her lipstick and wearing blue eye makeup reminiscent of The Joker's signature look. The film's title refers to the French term for "madness of two," when two people in an intimate relationship share elements of the same mental illness, such as delusions.

The new trailer also offers a brief glimpse of British actor Steve Coogan, who appears to be playing a TV journalist interviewing The Joker in prison. The upcoming film also features Irish actor Brendan Gleeson, seemingly playing a prison guard. In the YouTube comments, fans raved over the gripping new trailer and are eager to see what the second film will hold.

One fan commented: "Never thought I’d see Lady Gaga in a JOKER MOVIE but it all makes so much sense now and I’m living for it!!!!! Love seeing her spread her wings as an actor! This is gonna be amazing!!!" And another joked: "I’m seated. The theater employees are scared and asking me to leave because it’s 'not October yet' but I’m simply too seated." While a third replied: "That sudden change in expression from laugh to awkwardness at the beginning of the trailer, is alone Oscar worthy.

" The sequel comes as the original Joker film bagged 11 Academy Award nominations in 2020, with Joaquin Phoenix scooping the Best Actor award and Hildur Gudnadottir winning for her outstanding score. And now fans cannot wait for the second movie to premiere in theaters which has now been confirmed to be hitting the big screens this fall on October 4th.
