You could say Jim Gaffigan got a real kick out of Kelly Clarkson . On Wednesday’s episode of the Grammy-winner’s daytime talk show, Clarkson decided to interview the comedian completely barefoot. “What is going on with the feet?” Gaffigan said, a few minutes into their interview.

But before Clarkson could respond, Gaffigan decided to step up his comedy game and launched into a full-on roast. “I feel more grounded when I sing if I’m barefoot,” Gaffigan said, in a mock-feminine voice meant to be a silly imitation of Clarkson. “I can feel the ground and—” “Best part of that statement,” Clarkson interjected with a laugh.

. I do like performing barefoot.” The “Since U Been Gone” singer then explained to Gaffigan that her feet hurt that day and she wasn’t able to wear the stilettos she had originally planned to pair with her outfit.

“You don’t have to tell me about stilettos,” Gaffigan retorted in a tone of relatability, like he too understood the agony of wearing extremely high heels. Clarkson said that although she knows it’s unconventional to forgo footwear in public, she was just going to roll with it. “I think that’s great,” Gaffigan replied.
