Monday, January 20, 2025 A jet stream is expected to move towards the UK this weekend, bringing what experts are calling possibly the strongest winds of the winter season so far. The Met Office has warned that these conditions are likely to bring severe disruptions, with winds reaching up to 80mph in certain areas. Weather Warnings and Affected Areas The worst of the weather is anticipated to hit western Scotland, particularly Glasgow, as well as large portions of Northern Ireland.
These regions have been issued a yellow weather warning, effective from midnight on Friday through noon on Saturday. Power outages, damage to buildings, and travel disruptions are expected as a result of the strong winds and heavy rainfall. Other parts of the UK will not experience winds quite as powerful, but gusty winds and rain are still forecasted across the country.
The powerful jet stream, which will form over the North Atlantic, is expected to bring significant weather changes to the UK. As the jet stream strengthens, it will likely lead to the most severe weather conditions seen this winter. This period will also bring some of the most unsettling weather in the region, characterized by continued rain, high winds, and challenging travel conditions.
Week’s Weather Outlook In the days leading up to the weekend, the weather will remain relatively calm, with Tuesday expected to be slightly brighter than the previous day. For the rest of the week, though, the conditions will progressively worse.
