Jermaine Jenas is in a lot of pain following his sexting scandal, according to a body language expert. The former footballer, 41, has admitted to sending inappropriate texts to women at the BBC while working on The One Show, saying he has "let myself down'" as it emerged his relationship with his wife Ellie, is at breaking point after the pundit's axe from the corporation. Jermaine lifted the lid on his deceit in a candid video in which he says sorry to his family and his colleagues, explaining he "owes everyone an apology".

However, he insists: “I did nothing illegal. These were inappropriate messages between two consenting adults". Analysing his body language in the video from The Sun , Judi James says the former footballer painfully admits the misdemeanour is 'completely on me' when he says: "This is on me" by "placing a clawed hand to his chest".

She explains: "His gesture comes just before his words, making the concept look congruent here. His lower jaw juts in a suggestion of anger which again could be aimed at himself, given his topic here. His: 'This is on me' comes with a wince of pain.

" Pointing out that footballers are well-versed in looked "gutted" due to their post-match press conferences, Judi says Jermaine's "own goal" admission in terms of his private life is "powerful" stuff. She said: "For Jermaine, this is a powerful personal moment about what seems to be something of an own goal in his private life as well as his career off-field. He sits here with a look of reflective dejection, one elbow on a table strewn with water bottles, with his eyes downcast.

"His initial apology involves his hands being briefly thrown out from his hand clasp as his brows raise, which gives the feeling of ‘obviously’ to his apology. As he apologises to his wife his left hand is placed on his thigh and he seems to change position and squirm to suggest intense awkwardness or tension," she says. Speaking a day after his texting scandal, which has rocked the already under-fire BBC , Jermaine said: "I am ashamed, and I am deeply sorry.

I have let myself down, my family, friends and colleagues down. I owe everyone an apology, especially the women with whom I was messaging. I am so, so sorry.

" When referring to the "woman involved" in the video, Judi claims the dad-of-four "looks down in a cut-off before performing a tongue-poke to suggest rejection, possibly of himself, and a deep sigh." She continues: "But he also seems to want to make a strong point about ‘rumours’ here. His brows pull into a frown as his hands perform a weighing gesture of evaluation and fairness.

His head waggles to endorse this idea of evaluation and looking for balance." Concluding his apology, Jermaine insists he has done "nothing illegal". When reiterating his point in the candid clip, Judi says the pundit's "right hand forms a static chopping ritual as he says ‘nothing illegal happened’.

His eye contact here looks firmer to make his point. His hand is used as an emphatic baton as he describes ‘consenting adults’." Judi adds: "There might be some deeper moments too.

We can see him in one pose with one hand partly over his face and looking down, which appears to suggest a desire to project humility or upset. In another still he has his lips sucked in, which is often a signal of regret." Follow Mirror Celebs on TikTok , Snapchat , Instagram , Twitter , Facebook , YouTube and Threads .
