The star looked downcast as she kept her head down when walking past fans in New York City . The Beverly Hills, 90210 star, 52, was expected to discuss the death of her co-star and friend Shannen Doherty . Shannen died on July 13 at age 53 after a long battle with cancer .

'It's kind of hard to believe that other people understand that connection.' Garth said that despite Doherty's well-chronicled health woes, she was still very surprised to learn of her passing, knowing her resiliency. 'It's crazy that we could be shocked knowing that she was sick and knowing how hard she was fighting, but it still felt shocking ,' Garth said, adding she 'never thought [Doherty] would succumb to cancer.

' Doherty was initially diagnosed in 2015 with breast cancer, which went into remission before returning as stage four cancer in 2017 and spreading to her brain last year . 'I am still processing my tremendous grief over the loss of my long time friend Shannen, the woman I have often described as one of the strongest people I have ever known. Our connection was real and honest,' her caption began. 'We were so often pitted against each other but none of that reflected the truth of our real relationship which was one built on mutual respect and admiration.

She was courageous, passionate, determined and very loving and generous. 'I will miss her and will always honor her deeply in my heart and in my memories. My heart breaks for her family and Bowie and all the people who loved her,' she wrote.

Jennie also shared a lighthearted story about Shannen on the podcast. ' This would be in the time after Garth and first husband Dave Abrams divorced in 1996. 'We went to dinner with two of my quote-unquote boyfriends during that weird time, and I just remember her just really truly checking them out from across the table and assessing them,' Garth recalled. 'And then I would be like, "What do you think?" And she would tell me,'" she said.
