Jelena Dokic shows off her body transformation after 20kg weight loss and reveals heartbreaking battle with an eating disorder and depression READ MORE: Slimmed-down Jelena Dokic serves up delicious low-calorie meal on Adam Liaw's cooking show By Kate Dennett For Daily Mail Australia Published: 00:08, 27 August 2024 | Updated: 00:08, 27 August 2024 e-mail View comments Jelena Dokic has showed off her body transformation after her 20kg weight loss and candidly opened up about her struggles with depression and an eating disorder. The tennis pro, 41, took to Instagram on Sunday to share before and after shots from her weight loss, taken seven years apart, as she detailed her battles with 'self-worth'. She showed off her impressive body transformation and shared some inspiring words in an accompanying caption as she detailed her mental health struggles.

Jelena stressed that her weight loss was a byproduct of her focusing on her mental health, sharing her battle with depression, anxiety and an eating disorder. 'This is not about body size but feeling that I am not worthy enough to even live!!! On the left 7 years ago,' she shared. 'Even though I have a bit less weight now on the right, this is not about weight.

Because even if I was half the size on the left, I would still feel the same. And how is that? Not worthy enough to even live!!' She explained that at the time the first picture was taken, she was afraid to leave the house and was 'broken' from her battle with depression and PTSD. 'My face, body language and even clothing on the left says it all.

This is how low my self worth was. I was afraid to get out of the house,' she continued. Jelena Dokic has showed off her transformation after her 20kg weight loss (pictured left, seven years ago, and right, now) and opened up about her struggles with depression 'I was not able to look people in the eye, I just wanted to wear black or dark grey and cover myself up.

I even remember wishing to somehow fully cover my face and head and could I possibly not even need to go out of the house for the rest of my life. 'This was anxiety, depression, debilitating effect of trauma that made me feel I was worthless and not even worthy of living. 'This was the result of being put down my whole life especially by people close to me.

'The person on the left was broken, shattered, battling anxiety, depression, PTSD, BPD and an eating disorder. At times I hoped I wouldn't wake up so that I don't have to feel like this anymore. 'But this is not about pity or feeling sorry for myself.

I didn't want to be a victim. I wanted to survive and thrive and I got there.' Jelena then shared an inspiring message about her 'courage and resilience' as she encouraged others to not give up in the 'scary' times.

'Fight hard. Every single day, don't give up and no matter how scary it is get outside of your comfort zone. It will get easier and more comfortable to do so,' she penned.

'Keep going after it even when it's scary. Be brave and never give up. The way to start feeling good in your own skin and life is to be who you really are and embrace and love yourself.

'Don't be afraid of mistakes and failures, they make you learn and as long as you get back up, that's all that matters. Jelena stressed that her weight loss was a byproduct of her focusing on her mental health, sharing her battle with depression, anxiety and an eating disorder 'Don't you ever give up on yourself and your goals. Don't ever be defined by someone else's judgement and comments.

'Your worth is not up for discussion and it's not a group decision. And remember, you are who you decide you are. Nobody else.

So you get out there and go for it. 'Be yourself. Being authentic, real and vulnerable is the way to being happy and thriving.

You are worthy and never allow anyone to tell you otherwise.' It is not the first time Jelena has opened up about her weight loss and health overhaul, recently detailing how she lost the kilos for health reasons. In June, the Nine commentator shared a post on Instagram comparing her current appearance with how she looked in 2023, when she was 20kg heavier.

In the caption, Jelena explained she had lost the weight because of her family history of diabetes and the fact she had been diagnosed with high blood pressure. She stressed that she was happy in both pictures, adding that weight loss was not the goal but simply a 'byproduct' of adopting healthier habits. 'The most important thing is that I am happy and proud in both pics regardless of my weight and that I am kind always,' she began.

'So many questions about me getting healthier, which has seen me lose weight. Weight loss was not a priority; it's just a byproduct of looking after my health.

' Addressing those who accused her of crash-dieting, Jelena clarified: 'I didn't lose weight quickly. I lost 20 kilos in just under 10 months. Nothing fast.

' 'I stopped eating late at night especially things like burgers, pizza, fries and desserts because they made me feel so sluggish when I would wake up especially for early morning work and flights. So I don't eat heavy meals at night anymore and I don't eat after 7pm,' she went on. 'I eat more salads and soups for my meals now like a chicken caesar salad or tomato soup with multigrain bread.

This type of meal does not make me feel sluggish and I am full. I drink more water now and I have cut back on soda, even diet soda.' 'It's small changes over time and while I still have my cheeseburger and fries days it's just a lot less and I definitely don't eat junk food when I am working and travelling.

That's it,' she concluded. Instagram Share or comment on this article: Jelena Dokic shows off her body transformation after 20kg weight loss and reveals heartbreaking battle with an eating disorder and depression e-mail Add comment.
