During Wednesday's opening episode The TV presenter, 45, was left furious after the 19-year-old claimed the family did not speak openly to each other and as as result he 'keeps quiet'.

Freddie opted not to tell his father he wanted food from the cafe, so Jeff tried to reassure him that their budget was to share. Saying: 'You don't have to do things on the quiet, surely it only makes life easier for us as a family if we're all just honest ' Freddie interjected: 'I don't think we are even open as a family though, I stay quiet because I feel like thats what everyone else does. Freddie don't be unfair, what have I done for the last seven or eight years?'.

'Talking' Freddie replied, seemingly smiling nervously. Jeff snapped: 'Right well don't say that I don't, take responsibility that's part of this!' before storming off and leaving his son alone at the table. And earlier in the episode he revealed he'd signed up for the show in a bid to help his youngest son find a 'greater self worth'. Jeff then told the camera during one candid moment: 'I've seen my son struggle, I know what he needs is a greater sense of purpose, self worth and confidence'.

Adding: 'So something like [Celebrity Race Across The World], of course we are going to grab with both hands'. He said: 'The thing I'm most looking forward to is I feel like I'm going to learn a lot more about my son. 'He isn't at home loads and as a result I don't see loads of him, but the beauty of this trip is that he's with me and he can't shake me off'. But Jeff also joked that Freddie is 'not the best decision maker' as he recounted to his son on camera that he had gone off to meet a girl instead of packing for their trip.

He said: 'One of those moments was last night when you should have been packing for our trip but instead you travelled to see a girl. Classic Fred.' The gruelling show sees teams of two race across an area of the world using any means of transportation other than air travel.

Ahead of the first episode Jeff told The Daily Star newspaper's HOTTV column: 'I wanted to take part because the travel element is an absolute privilege, but also to share it with my son and to be able to make those memories. So, I guess I'm just trying to squeeze every last bit out of him that I can.' Meanwhile Freddie said: It'll be nice to spend that time with Dad, just me and my dad. 'Dad's got a busy life, he works a lot and there aren't loads of times where we've done stuff just the two of us.

'But when we do I'm really lucky whether it's going to the cinema, going to the driving range, it's all good.
