VENICE — The Jewish Congregation of Venice will honor its new rabbi, Marci Vitkus, Nov. 8-9, when she is officially installed as rabbi and cantor Co-chairs Judy Rapaport and Mardi Skoegard have planned a weekend of events, starting with Shabbat services at 7:30 p.m.
Friday, Nov. 8, when Vitkus will conduct services along with several colleagues, many of whom will be traveling to Venice for the weekend. On Saturday, Nov.
9, Vitkus will be officially installed as JCV rabbi at a Shabbat service at 10 a.m. Following the service, a gala luncheon will be held in the JCV social hall.
Saturday evening concludes the weekend’s festivities with a concert at the JCV at 7 p.m. Vitkus will sing with several rabbis and cantors.
The new rabbi concluded her rabbinic studies in June and will serve her congregation as both rabbi and cantor. When the previous JCV rabbi announced his departure , she made the decision to apply for the position after serving as cantor for 23 years. The next phase of her multi-faceted career began with several months of rabbinic studies, which she completed in June.
