The funnyman, 43, told MailOnline he's 'chuffed to bits' with the reaction to the series, which kicked off earlier this month.

The debut episode on Monday August 19 pulled in 1.1million viewers, a 17 per cent audience share, making it the most-watched BBC1 Daytime quiz show opener for ten years. The series also attracted large numbers of younger viewers, sparked by the summer holidays and Jason's appeal in the demographic.

'I really hope that others who've missed it will catch-up on iPlayer. 'It just goes to show that people want new and fun quiz shows they can shout the answers to at home. 'See you every day at 4.

30pm.' The series sees three pairs of contestants battle it out using quick-thinking general knowledge. The format is based on 50/50 questions where each question can only fit into one of the two answers provided, but the pressure of The Answer Run means participants haven't got long to make their decisions.

Jason has filmed 25 episodes for the debut series, all shot in Glasgow, with some viewers describing the quiz show as 'additive' viewing on social media, among other positive reactions. Writing on X, one viewer commented: 'Have to say thus far I've been loving The Answer Run. He told MailOnline: 'To get an audience of over a million people watching a brand new show live on TV these days is just fantastic' Jason is best known as a stand up comedian (pictured performing at the Royal Albert Hall in 2008) 'Manford is a great presenter and it's another quite addictive quiz show to shout at my TV to.

' Another wrote: 'Got the potential to be a very good show. Always liked Jason Manford.' A third added: 'Great timing by the BBC.

Mop up all the folk who are done with Tipping Point repeats or don't like racing'. Jason recently joked how his teenage kids find his showbiz career 'embarrassing'. Speaking during his guest slot on ITV show Loose Women, the comedian said 'two of them are' when asked by host Judi Love whether his kids are his biggest fans, adding that he's 'lost the teens'.

The father-of-six explained: 'When I did panto a couple of years ago there was a big poster near their school of me dressed as Captain Hook. And I said 'Have you told your friends that's your dad?' They were like, 'No, we just said it was a coincidence – same surname.' They have that sort of embarrassment.

' However, despite their awkwardness surrounding his profession, he still makes 'dad jokes' in front of them. He said: 'You do need dad jokes. I do all mine.

I take a couple of my kids and a couple of neighbour's kids to school, and when I'm reversing out the driveway - this is a good one, you can have this, all parents can have this one. 'As I'm reversing out the driveway, I go, 'Oh, this takes me back.' I do it every day.

That's the trick of the dad joke, do it every day.' Jason has four children from his marriage to ex-wife Katherine, 14-year-old twin daughters, a 13-year-old daughter and a son born in 2012. The series sees three pairs of contestants battle it out using quick-thinking general knowledge Jason married his second wife, Lucy Dyke in 2017, and they have two children together (pictured in 2022) He married his second wife, Lucy Dyke in 2017, and they have two children together.

The Masked Singer star, whose nationwide new stand-up tour A Manford All Seasons starts in November, has always been very open about his parenting, especially during his comedy sets. He says: 'I talk about it a lot in my stand up because it's true. The problem with parenting is, of course, out of all the jobs that you do, it's the one job that you don't know if you've got it right, until it's too late to do anything about it.

'So you've just got to do everything with love and and and faith and and I think there's honesty. I think there's times where you do get things wrong as a parent. I'm from a background where my parents didn't apologise to children.

'So now I think we're a bit different. Now you do say to your kids, 'Look, I got that wrong there.' Jason will also be showing off his acting skills this autumn by starring in BBC1 drama Waterloo Road, playing headteacher Mr Savage.

Speaking about this new role, Jason said: 'What an absolute treat it is to join the cast and crew of Waterloo Road, right here in my home city of Manchester. 'My kids and I binged the show on iPlayer during lockdown. 'It's such a brilliant, iconic show, so I'm dead proud to now be part of its history.

'Growing up, I always wanted to be a teacher and now becoming a headteacher, I know I would have been terrible.' TV content Share or comment on this article: Jason Manford admits he is 'chuffed to bits' as new game show The Answer Run becomes best BBC daytime quiz show e-mail Add comment.
