Pune: Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange , reacting to the collapse of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's statue on Monday in Sindhudurg , blamed corrupt govt contractors. Jarange threatened to launch an agitation if those responsible for the statue's collapse were not arrested. The Maratha quota activist said, "The collapse of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's statue is unfortunate for the state.

It is the fault of contractors who indulge in corruption in every work they carry out. They did not spare a national icon." The statue was installed at Rajkot Fort in Malvan tehsil of Sindhudurg district on Navy Day on December 4, 2023.

The Indian Navy and state govt have initiated inquiries into the collapse while the opposition has targeted the state govt. Jarange claimed that govt will try to shield the real culprits. He said, "Going by the track record, we do not have much hope from govt.

We are not expecting any strict action against those who are responsible for the collapse of the statue. The home minister is busy shielding the real culprits. If govt does not put the culprits behind bars, we will carry out an agitation to force it to take action.
