Wednesday, August 21, 2024 Bangalore International Airport Ltd, the operator of Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (BLR Airport), is excited to announce the expansion of Japan Airlines (JAL) Group’s flight services. In response to growing demand, JAL will increase its flights on the Tokyo – Bengaluru route from three to five per week, starting the last week of October. This development strengthens Bengaluru’s position as the key gateway to South and Central India, enhancing connectivity and simplifying travel for passengers from Bengaluru and neighboring regions.

BLR Airport remains the sole airport in South India offering a direct link to Japan, with JAL as the exclusive airline providing this essential service. The airline utilizes its Boeing B787-8 aircraft for this route, featuring a two-class configuration with 186 seats. Satyaki Raghunath, Chief Operating Officer of Bangalore International Airport Ltd , commented, “ We are delighted that JAL Group has chosen to expand its operations at BLR Airport, further solidifying our airport’s reputation as South / Central India’s leading international gateway.



This strategic decision not only enhances passenger convenience and boosts regional economic growth but also strengthens our commitment to connecting Bengaluru to major global centres of commerce and tourism. As we continue to expand our operations, we remain dedicated to delivering exceptional travel experiences and setting new benchmarks in connectivity.” Japan Airlines commenced operations at BLR Airport on 12th April 2020.

Since then, passenger traffic between Bengaluru and Japan has seen significant growth, with 23,532 passengers in 2022 and an impressive 167.55% increase to 62,959 passengers in 2023, underscoring the strong demand for travel driven by tourism and business between South India and Japan..
