Today, the whole of India will be soaking into the spirit of Janmashtami. This year, the birth date of Lord Krishna has fallen on August 26, 2024. Temples, homes and community halls will be filled with Krishna devotees singing bhajans and shlokas in praise of the Lord.

Bollywood movies too have given us some beautiful songs that celebrate the unique relationship of the God with his devotees. Lord Krishna has a multi-dimensional personality, which has been captured beautifully by lyricists in films. Here is our pick of seven soulful Lord Krishna songs for Janmashtami 2024.



The film released in 2005. Subhash Ghai's films are known for their music, and this one was no different. The song is remembered till date.

Sukhwinder Singh, Ayesha Darbar and S Shailaja gave their vocals to the song. The lyrics were by Javed Akhtar and music by Ismail Darbar. Vivek Oberoi and Isha Sharvani were seen in the song.

that released in 1978 is a classic. This Bhajan from the movie is a favourite across generations. Laxmikant-Pyarelal composed the songs of this film, with lyrics by Pandit Narendra Sharma.

The evergreen devotional song is sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Manna Dey. It is played in all Janmashtami functions across India. Shakti Samantha's movie (1972) is known for its music.

Sharmila Tagore looks absolutely divine in the song from the movie. Lata Mangeshkar has given her voice to the beautiful melody while the music is by RD Burman. Late lyricist Anand Bakshi wrote the song.

(1975) that starred Sachin Pilgaonkar and Sarika had some lovely songs. One of the hits is that has vocals by Aarti Mukherji and Jaspal Singh. The lyrics and music is composed by late Ravindra Jain.

This family drama is from the stable of Rajshri Productions. Every Mumbaikar who has been to a Dahi Handi event must have heard this song blaring out from the speakers. The original number features Amitabh Bachchan and Parveen Babi, and is from the film (1982).
