James Martin opened up about a regret that he still has to this day regarding his family. The 52-year-old chef returned for another segment of his Saturday morning cooking show on ITV , this time welcoming the likes of Lesley Walters and choirmaster Gareth Malone. When it came to his time in the kitchen, James decided to show off different ways to cook with tomatoes while speaking to fellow chefs Sat Bains and Francesco Mazzei.

It was while he was dishing up during this segment that Saturday Morning became a little less cheerful as James spoke of growing his own tomatoes. He commented: “Varying degrees of success this year, that’s one of the fascinations with growing your own stuff.” “And one of the regrets that I have now is sadly, I lost both my grandfather and my uncle, not taking more advice, paying more notice really in their expertise when they were growing the tomatoes.



“You sort of go down there ‘why can’t yours be the same as theirs was?’ “Because they’ve got love and care and attention all the time I guess really. “But it’s just nice to give it a go every sort of season.” While James’ dad was a catering manager at Yorkshire stately home Castle Howard, few details are known about his grandfather and uncle.

However, the TV star did previously open up on Saturday Morning about building a greenhouse in his Hampshire home because of them. He said: "When I bought this house the very first thing I built was that greenhouse to remind me of my gra.
